How Does a Dog Eat Food?
January 1, 2021Food is any material consumed to give nutrition to an organism. In a human body, food is composed of food particles that are generally taken from the diet, or consumed externally. Food is generally of animal, plant or fungal source, and in quantity consists of nutrients, including vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, or minerals. Every living cell on the earth is composed of cells that need specific amounts of various kinds of food. These food particles are absorbed into the bloodstream through the digestive system.
The major parts of food are carbohydrate, protein, fat, mineral salts and water. Carbohydrate is the main source of energy in the human body, while protein and fat provide energy to the body. Mineral salts are used by the body for making digestible substances such as salts, ions and glucose. Water is the primary excretory fluid that carries away the energy produced by the food particles. All these elements combine to form food, the primary source of nutrients for the body. These food components can be categorized in three forms, namely, carbohydrates, protein and fats.
Carbohydrates are grouped into two types-the simple and complex carbohydrates. The complex carbohydrates have more chemical formula than the simple ones. They have an extended sugar chain. On the other hand, the simple carbohydrates are made of more simple sugar molecules. Simple carbohydrates are absorbed easily by the body, but they lack the nutritive value of the complex carbohydrates.
Fats, on the other hand, are heavier than the other two elements, but they carry more nutrients. The fat molecule has seven carbon atoms, while the carb molecule has six. Carbs are rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins. The main problem with fats is that they cannot be absorbed by the body in large quantities. Fats are usually eaten with sugary foods, which are converted into glucose, a form of energy. The sugar contained in the food combines with fats to form a substance called tri-sugar or glucose.
One of the main nutrients is protein, which is available in two forms-incomplete proteins or complete proteins. The incomplete proteins are not digested by the body. They are used as building blocks of the body. On the other hand, the complete proteins can be consumed as food, since they are fully metabolized and therefore provide all the nutrients needed by the body.
Each of the three nutrients plays an important role in the development and maintenance of an individual. Food, when eaten, provides energy to live and help sustain life. Food, when combined with complete proteins, provide the building blocks of the body, which provide the basis for cells to grow and support all the other organs and systems to function normally.
